Chocolate Tiramisu

Chocolate Tiramisu is a delicious variant of the classic Tiramisu. I will now describe the recipe to you.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 500 g of mascarpone
  • 300 g of ladyfingers
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 200 g of dark chocolate
  • Coffee as needed (to soak the ladyfingers)
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Separate the egg yolks, placing the yolks in a bowl and the whites in another.

  2. Whip the yolks with the sugar until you get a light and fluffy mixture.

  3. Add the mascarpone to the whipped yolks and mix until the mixture is smooth.

  4. In a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate. Let it cool slightly and then fold it into the mascarpone mixture.

  5. Whip the whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form and gently fold them into the mascarpone and chocolate mixture to keep it soft.

  6. Prepare the coffee and let it cool down.

  7. Soak the ladyfingers in the coffee without making them too soggy. Arrange a first layer of ladyfingers at the bottom of a baking dish.

  8. Cover the ladyfingers with half of the mascarpone and chocolate mixture.

  9. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers and complete with the remaining mascarpone mixture.

  10. Level the surface and dust with unsweetened cocoa powder.

  11. Let the chocolate tiramisu rest in the refrigerator for at least 3-4 hours, better if overnight, before serving.

Fun Fact

Tiramisu is a dessert that originated in the Veneto region, though some claim its origins lie in Tuscany or Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The chocolate version is one of the many delicious variants that have spread, combining the bitter note of cocoa with the sweetness of mascarpone and the crunchiness of the ladyfingers soaked in coffee.
