Chocolate Salami with Exotic Fruits

Chocolate salami is a no-bake dessert, very popular for its simplicity and deliciousness. An exotic variation includes the addition of exotic fruits, which can bring freshness and a unique accent in flavor. Here’s how to prepare it:

Ingredients

  • 200g of dry biscuits
  • 150g of dark chocolate
  • 100g of butter
  • 80g of powdered sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 50g of unsalted pistachios
  • 100g of dried exotic fruit (mango, papaya, pineapple, etc.), chopped into small pieces
  • Cocoa powder, as needed for finishing

Preparation

  1. Roughly break up the biscuits and place them in a bowl.
  2. In a small pot, melt the dark chocolate and butter in a double boiler.
  3. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the powdered sugar until the mixture is frothy and light in color.
  4. Add the melted chocolate and butter to the yolks and mix well to combine.
  5. Fold in the broken biscuits, pistachios, and pieces of dried exotic fruit. Mix until all the ingredients are well distributed.
  6. Lay out a sheet of parchment paper and pour the mixture onto it. Shape it into a salami by rolling it up in the paper and closing the ends tightly.
  7. Place the chocolate salami in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours, even better if it remains overnight.
  8. Before serving, roll the salami in cocoa powder to recreate the “salami” effect.

Allow the salami to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before slicing to make cutting easier. Chocolate Salami with Exotic Fruits is perfect to be served as a dessert at the end of the meal or to accompany an afternoon cup of tea.

Curiosity

Chocolate salami, also known in Portugal as “salame de chocolate”, is a dessert that imitates the appearance of meat salami, but is completely sweet. Its origin is not well defined, but it is thought to derive from a tradition of recycling leftovers from biscuits and chocolate.
