Chocolate Covered Stuffed Figs

Chocolate covered stuffed figs are a rich and delicious dessert that combines the sweetness of figs with the intensity of chocolate, further enriched by a filling that can vary to satisfy different tastes. Here’s a simple recipe to prepare this treat.

Ingredients

  • 12 good quality dried figs
  • 150 g of dark chocolate
  • 50 g of chopped walnuts (or a filling of choice, such as chopped almonds, pistachios, mascarpone, sweetened ricotta, etc.)
  • 2 tablespoons of honey (optional)

Preparation

  1. If the dried figs are very tough, soften them by soaking in warm water for a few minutes, then dry them carefully.
  2. Take a sharp knife and make a cross-shaped incision on the top part of each fig without cutting too deeply.
  3. Gently open the figs without completely separating them at the ends.
  4. If using chopped dried fruit (such as walnuts, almonds, or pistachios), you can mix it with a little honey to get a uniform filling mixture.
  5. Stuff each fig with the chosen filling, being careful not to overload them.
  6. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave, being sure to stir it frequently to avoid burning.
  7. Once the chocolate is smooth and completely melted, dip the stuffed figs in the chocolate using two forks or the special chocolatier tools.
  8. Drain the excess chocolate well and place them on a sheet of parchment paper.
  9. Let the figs cool until the chocolate has set. You can speed up this process by placing them in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes.
  10. Store the chocolate-covered stuffed figs in a cool place or in the fridge until ready to serve.

Curiosity

Figs are an ancient fruit, appreciated by the Egyptians and Romans, and their combination with chocolate is a relatively modern creation. The contrast between the natural sweetness of the fig and the bitterness of the dark chocolate offers an intense and satisfying taste experience.

It is possible to play with different types of chocolate or different fillings to create variations of this basic recipe, experimenting and personalizing the dessert according to your tastes.
