Crunchy with chocolate

Crunchy with chocolate is a delightful treat that is quite simple to make. Ideal for a snack or to finish a meal with a touch of sweetness. Here is how to prepare it.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of whole almonds (or peanuts, hazelnuts)
  • 200 g of sugar
  • 100 g of dark chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Toast the almonds in the oven at 180°C for about 10 minutes, or in a skillet over medium heat, until they are lightly golden brown. Be careful not to burn them.

  2. In a non-stick pan, put the sugar and water and let it caramelize over low heat, stirring occasionally. When the sugar starts to boil, stop stirring. Cook until it has a nice, light amber color.

  3. Once the caramel is ready, add the toasted almonds and a pinch of salt and mix well to fully coat them.

  4. Pour the mixture of almonds and caramel onto a sheet of parchment paper, spread it with a spatula to get an even thickness, and let it cool down.

  5. Meanwhile, melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or microwave, being careful not to burn it.

  6. Spread the melted chocolate over the cooled crunchy in an even layer.

  7. Allow the chocolate to cool, ideally in the fridge, for at least an hour before breaking the crunchy into pieces.

  8. Serve as a dessert or snack.

Curiosity

Crunchy is an ancient dessert, often associated with festivals and local feasts in various Italian regions. The addition of chocolate is a more modern indulgent variation that combines the pleasure of traditional crunchy with the richness of the chocolate, creating a perfect union of textures and flavors.
