Chocolate Bars

Chocolate bars are a tasty and easy to prepare dessert. Here’s the basic recipe:

Ingredients

  • 200 g of dark chocolate
  • 100 g of milk chocolate
  • 50 g of butter
  • 150 g of dry biscuits (like Digestive or others of your choice)
  • 100 g of hazelnuts or toasted almonds (optional)
  • 50 g of dried fruit of your choice (such as raisins, dried cranberries, dried apricots)
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Break the dark and milk chocolate into pieces and put them in a heatproof bowl together with the butter.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler or microwave, being careful to stir often until you have a smooth mixture.
  3. In the meantime, break the biscuits into small pieces and roughly chop the dried fruit and hazelnuts or almonds, if you have chosen to include them.
  4. Once the chocolate is melted, remove the bowl from the heat source and add the broken biscuits, dried fruit, and pinch of salt to the chocolate mixture. Mix well.
  5. Pour the mixture into a baking tray lined with parchment paper and level it with a spatula or the back of a spoon.
  6. Let the mixture cool at room temperature for a few minutes and then put it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, until it has hardened.
  7. After the bar has solidified, remove it from the tray and cut it into bars of the desired size.

Curiosity

Customizing chocolate bars is endless: you can add cereals, puffed rice, marshmallows or pieces of caramel to create new versions of this dessert every time. Moreover, it is a great idea to recycle leftover chocolate from holidays or to make a very appreciated DIY gift.

If you want an Italian touch, you can replace the biscuits with “pan di Stelle” or “savoiardi”, and add a spoonful of orange or coffee liqueur to flavor the chocolate. Bon appétit!
