Chocolate Bars
17/11/2023Chocolate bars are a tasty and easy to prepare dessert. Here’s the basic recipe:
Ingredients
- 200 g of dark chocolate
- 100 g of milk chocolate
- 50 g of butter
- 150 g of dry biscuits (like Digestive or others of your choice)
- 100 g of hazelnuts or toasted almonds (optional)
- 50 g of dried fruit of your choice (such as raisins, dried cranberries, dried apricots)
- A pinch of salt
Preparation
- Break the dark and milk chocolate into pieces and put them in a heatproof bowl together with the butter.
- Melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler or microwave, being careful to stir often until you have a smooth mixture.
- In the meantime, break the biscuits into small pieces and roughly chop the dried fruit and hazelnuts or almonds, if you have chosen to include them.
- Once the chocolate is melted, remove the bowl from the heat source and add the broken biscuits, dried fruit, and pinch of salt to the chocolate mixture. Mix well.
- Pour the mixture into a baking tray lined with parchment paper and level it with a spatula or the back of a spoon.
- Let the mixture cool at room temperature for a few minutes and then put it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, until it has hardened.
- After the bar has solidified, remove it from the tray and cut it into bars of the desired size.
Curiosity
Customizing chocolate bars is endless: you can add cereals, puffed rice, marshmallows or pieces of caramel to create new versions of this dessert every time. Moreover, it is a great idea to recycle leftover chocolate from holidays or to make a very appreciated DIY gift.
If you want an Italian touch, you can replace the biscuits with “pan di Stelle” or “savoiardi”, and add a spoonful of orange or coffee liqueur to flavor the chocolate. Bon appétit!
