Chocolate and Ginger Squares
17/11/2023Chocolate and ginger squares are a great mix between the intense sweetness of chocolate and the spicy, aromatic note of ginger. Here’s the recipe for you:
Ingredients
- 200 g of dark chocolate
- 100 g of butter
- 150 g of brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 100 g of flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
- A pinch of salt
- Chopped candied ginger (optional, for decoration)
Preparation
- Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees C and line a 20 cm square baking tin with parchment paper.
- Melt the dark chocolate with butter in a double boiler, and let it cool slightly.
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the sugar until you have a light and fluffy mixture.
- Add the lukewarm melted chocolate to the egg and sugar mixture, and fold gently.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, and ground ginger and incorporate it into the mixture, also adding a pinch of salt.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and level the surface.
- Bake in the pre-heated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.
- Let it cool in the tin, then sprinkle with chopped candied ginger, if desired, before cutting into squares.
A little-known fact: besides being beneficial for health, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and digestive properties, ginger adds an exotic touch to many desserts, balancing the intensity of the chocolate in a surprising way.
