Chocolate and Coconut Tart
17/11/2023Here is an Italian recipe with a tropical twist to prepare a chocolate and coconut tart. Remember that you will need to acquire certain ingredients, but I assure you that the result will be exquisite.
Ingredients
- 300 g of type 00 flour
- 150 g of cold butter, cut into cubes
- 120 g of icing sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 pinch of salt
- Grated zest of 1 lemon (optional)
- 150 g of grated coconut
- 200 g of dark chocolate
- 100 ml of cooking cream
- 2 tablespoons of rum (optional)
Preparation
- Start preparing the shortcrust pastry: in a bowl, combine the flour with the icing sugar and a pinch of salt, add the cold butter cubes and start to work with your fingertips until you get a sandy mixture.
- Add the egg, egg yolk, and grated lemon zest. Continue to knead until you form a smooth ball, wrap it in cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Take the mixture out of the refrigerator, roll it out on a floured surface, and place it into a previously buttered and floured tart pan. Prick the bottom with a fork.
- Bake the base of the tart in a pre-heated oven at 180 °C for about 15 minutes or until it becomes lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool.
- While the base cools, it’s time to prepare the chocolate ganache. Finely chop the dark chocolate and place it in a bowl.
- Bring the cream to a boil and pour it over the chopped chocolate. Wait a minute and then stir from the center outwards until you obtain a smooth and homogeneous ganache. Add the two tablespoons of rum if you wish for a more intense flavor.
- Spread the grated coconut evenly over the bottom of the now-cooled tart base and pour the chocolate ganache on top.
- Let the tart rest in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the ganache to solidify.
After this time, your chocolate and coconut tart will be ready to be enjoyed!
Curiosity
The combination of chocolate and coconut is very popular in many parts of the world. The tart, a typical preparation in Italian pastry, lends itself well to this exotic combination, bringing together the tradition of Italian sweetness with tropical flavors.
