Chestnut Fritters

Chestnut fritters are a delicious autumnal dessert, typical of many Italian regions. Here is the recipe to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • 200 g of chestnut flour
  • 50 g of all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 50 g of sugar
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • Seed oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, sift the flours and mix them with the sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Make a well in the center of the flours and add the eggs and part of the milk. Start mixing with a whisk to combine the ingredients without forming lumps.
  3. Gradually add the remaining milk, continuing to stir until you get a smooth and lump-free batter.
  4. Let the batter rest for about 30 minutes.
  5. Heat plenty of seed oil in a pan. When the oil is hot, take spoonfuls of batter and pour them into the oil.
  6. Fry the fritters until they become golden and puffy, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
  7. Drain them and place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Dust the chestnut fritters with powdered sugar before serving.

Curiosity

Chestnuts are a very widespread element in Italian autumn cuisine. They can be used in a multitude of ways, from soups, to pastas, to desserts as in this case. These fritters are a perfect way to savor the sweet and slightly earthy taste of chestnuts. In some variations of the recipe, you can also add chopped dried fruit or candied fruit to enrich the flavor of the fritters.
