Glazed Chestnut and Meringue Shot Glasses

Glazed chestnut and meringue shot glasses are an elegant and delicious dessert that can be served as a refined end to a meal or as a sweet treat during a party.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of glazed chestnuts (marron glacés)
  • 200 ml of whipping cream
  • 3 Italian or French meringues (you can also make them at home if you wish)
  • 20 ml of rum (optional, for flavoring)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for decoration

Preparation

  1. Take the glazed chestnuts and roughly chop them, setting some aside for decorating the shot glasses at the end. If you prefer a hint of alcohol, you could add rum to the chopped glazed chestnuts and let them infuse for a few minutes.

  2. In another bowl, whip the cream until it is well stiff and firm.

  3. Crumble the meringues, leaving aside some larger pieces for the final decoration.

  4. Now proceed with assembling the shot glasses: place a first layer of glazed chestnuts at the bottom, followed by a layer of whipped cream and then some crumbled meringue pieces.

  5. Repeat the layers until the shot glasses are filled, making sure to finish with a touch of cream and some visible meringue pieces for a crispy contrast.

  6. Finally, decorate the shot glasses with pieces of glazed chestnuts you had set aside and lightly dust with unsweetened cocoa powder.

Leave the shot glasses in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving, so that the flavors can blend better.

Curiosity

Glazed chestnuts, or marron glacés, are candied chestnuts originating from France and Italy, especially famous in the Piedmont region. They are considered a delicacy and are often used in the preparation of sweets during the Christmas period. Their sweetness pairs beautifully with the neutral taste of whipped cream and the crispness of the meringue, creating a perfect balance for a sophisticated dessert.
