Puff Pastry Cheese Sticks

Puff pastry cheese sticks are a delicious and very simple snack to prepare. Here are the steps for a classic version, with an Italian twist.

Ingredients

  • 1 rectangular puff pastry roll
  • 100 g of grated parmesan (or a mix of aged Italian cheeses to taste)
  • 1 egg (for brushing)
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of freshly ground black pepper (optional)
  • Poppy or sesame seeds for decorating (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200° C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into long and narrow strips, about 2 cm wide.
  3. Brush the strips with the beaten egg, which will help to color them and allow the cheese to stick.
  4. Sprinkle grated cheese, a pinch of salt, and, if desired, a little black pepper on each strip of puff pastry.
  5. If you like, you can add poppy or sesame seeds for a crunchy and decorative note.
  6. Now, gently twist each strip on itself to create the typical spiral effect of the sticks.
  7. Place each stick on the prepared tray and leave a little space between each one, as they will puff up during baking.
  8. Bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the sticks are golden and crispy.

Once ready, let them cool slightly before serving; they are excellent both hot and at room temperature.

These sticks are extremely versatile: you can customize them with aromatic herbs like rosemary or thyme to add an additional layer of flavor. Serve them as an appetizer or during an aperitif with friends. They are simple to make and always very appreciated.
