Cheese Meatballs

Cheese meatballs are a delicious and simple dish to prepare. Ideal as an appetizer or main course, they can be a tasty variant to use different types of cheese. Here is a basic recipe with an Italian twist.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of cheese of your choice (you can use mozzarella, scamorza, fontina, or a mix of stretched-curd cheeses)
  • 50 g of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g of breadcrumbs
  • Freshly chopped parsley to taste
  • Salt and pepper
  • Oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Start by grating the cheese if necessary and place it in a bowl.
  2. Add the Parmesan, eggs, and a portion of the breadcrumbs. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Mix all the ingredients until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  4. If the mixture is too soft, add more breadcrumbs until the desired consistency is achieved.
  5. Shape small balls with the mixture.
  6. Roll the balls in the remaining breadcrumbs, covering them completely.
  7. Heat abundant oil in a frying pan and, once hot, fry the meatballs until they become golden and crispy.
  8. Remove the meatballs from the oil and let them drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. Serve the cheese meatballs hot, garnished with freshly chopped parsley.

Curiosity

Cheese meatballs can also be baked for a lighter version. In this case, place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 200 °C for about 10-15 minutes or until golden. The result will be less crispy but definitely healthier. Enjoy your meal!
