Caramel Apples

Caramel apples are a simple and delicious dessert, perfect as a dessert or even as a more tempting snack. Here’s how to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • 4 apples (Golden apples are usually used for this dessert)
  • 200 g of sugar
  • 100 ml of water
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • Wooden sticks or lollipop sticks

Preparation

  1. First, wash the apples and dry them well. Remove the stems and insert wooden sticks where the stems were, so that each apple has a handle.

  2. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice. Set over medium heat and cook without stirring until a syrup is obtained, waiting for the sugar to dissolve completely.

  3. Increase the heat and bring the syrup to a boil. Continue cooking until the syrup takes on a golden amber color. It’s important not to stir the caramel, but you can gently tilt the saucepan to move it if necessary. The process may take about 10-15 minutes. Be careful not to burn the caramel.

  4. Once the caramel is ready, remove it from the heat and tilt the saucepan to immerse the apples, one at a time, in the caramel, rotating them to cover evenly.

  5. Place the caramel apples on a sheet of parchment paper or a non-stick tray and allow to cool completely before serving.

Curiosity

Caramel apples are a typical treat at amusement parks and popular festivities in various countries. In Italy, we can find them especially during town fairs or festivals. A variation could be to roll the apples in the caramel and then dip them in chopped nuts such as hazelnuts or almonds, to add crunchiness and an extra flavor.
