Caramel Apples
17/11/2023Caramel apples are a simple and delicious dessert, perfect as a dessert or even as a more tempting snack. Here’s how to prepare them:
Ingredients
- 4 apples (Golden apples are usually used for this dessert)
- 200 g of sugar
- 100 ml of water
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- Wooden sticks or lollipop sticks
Preparation
-
First, wash the apples and dry them well. Remove the stems and insert wooden sticks where the stems were, so that each apple has a handle.
-
In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice. Set over medium heat and cook without stirring until a syrup is obtained, waiting for the sugar to dissolve completely.
-
Increase the heat and bring the syrup to a boil. Continue cooking until the syrup takes on a golden amber color. It’s important not to stir the caramel, but you can gently tilt the saucepan to move it if necessary. The process may take about 10-15 minutes. Be careful not to burn the caramel.
-
Once the caramel is ready, remove it from the heat and tilt the saucepan to immerse the apples, one at a time, in the caramel, rotating them to cover evenly.
-
Place the caramel apples on a sheet of parchment paper or a non-stick tray and allow to cool completely before serving.
Curiosity
Caramel apples are a typical treat at amusement parks and popular festivities in various countries. In Italy, we can find them especially during town fairs or festivals. A variation could be to roll the apples in the caramel and then dip them in chopped nuts such as hazelnuts or almonds, to add crunchiness and an extra flavor.
