Caprese Fingerfood

Caprese finger food is a single-serving and practical version of the classic Caprese salad, excellent for appetizers or snacks. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Cherry-sized mozzarella or mozzarella to be cut into cubes
  • Fresh basil
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • Toothpicks

Preparation

  1. Wash the cherry tomatoes and cut them in half if they are large enough, otherwise you can leave them whole for a more visually appealing effect.
  2. If you chose cherry-sized mozzarella, drain them well; if you have a larger mozzarella, cut it into cubes the same size as the cherry tomatoes.
  3. Wash some basil leaves, dry them gently.
  4. Assemble the snacks by threading a tomato half, a folded basil leaf (if it’s too large), and a cherry-sized mozzarella or a cube onto a toothpick.
  5. Arrange the snacks on a serving plate.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, and if you like, you can add a drop of traditional or reduced balsamic vinegar from Modena for an additional touch of flavor.
  7. Serve immediately, to ensure the mozzarella remains fresh and the basil keeps its pungent aroma.

Curiosity

Caprese finger food is a modern reinterpretation of one of the most classic dishes of the Campania gastronomic tradition, and in particular from the island of Capri, which it is named after. The simplicity of the ingredients, the colors that recall those of the Italian flag, and the freshness of the flavors make it a dish loved all over the world.
