Waffles without Butter

I can offer a recipe for light butterless waffles. We’ll use oil as an alternative to butter. Here are the ingredients and the procedure.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 50 ml of vegetable oil (sunflower or corn)
  • 300 ml of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the oil, milk, and vanilla extract, if you are using it. Mix well to combine.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until you have a smooth and homogeneous mixture.
  4. Heat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  5. When the iron is hot, pour a portion of batter suitable for the size of your iron and close the lid.
  6. Cook until the waffles are golden and crispy, usually about 5 minutes, depending on your iron.
  7. Remove the waffles and serve them hot with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, maple syrup, yogurt, or jam.

Curiosity

Waffles are a versatile dish that can be sweet or savory. The word “waffle” comes from the Dutch “wafel,” dating back to the 13th century. Although today we often associate them with breakfast, they were eaten as snacks or even as part of main meals in the past.

Remember that this recipe uses oil instead of butter, but if you’re looking for a completely dairy-free option, you can replace the milk with a plant-based beverage of your choice, such as almond or soy milk.
