Broccoli and Sausage Donut

The broccoli and sausage donut is a tasty and original dish, perfect for a family lunch or a dinner with friends. Here’s the recipe to make it.

Ingredients

  • 300 g of broccoli
  • 250 g of sausage
  • 250 g of all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 ml of milk
  • 80 ml of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 packet of baking powder for savory pies
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • grated Parmesan cheese to taste

Preparation

  1. Clean the broccoli and divide into florets. Boil them in slightly salted water for about 5-7 minutes, then drain and let them cool.

  2. In a pan, cook the crumbled sausage until it’s well browned. If necessary, you can add a drizzle of oil.

  3. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the milk and oil. Add the Parmesan cheese, a pinch of salt and pepper to your taste.

  4. Gradually incorporate the sifted flour with the yeast, mixing well to avoid lumps.

  5. Add the cooked broccoli and sausage to this base, stirring gently to evenly distribute the ingredients.

  6. Pour the mixture into a donut pan, previously oiled or lined with parchment paper.

  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the donut comes out clean.

  8. Let the donut cool before removing it from the mold and serve.

Fun Facts

The savory donut is a variation of the more classic baked sweet, and shows us how the “donut” shape can be versatile and suitable also for recipes that deviate from the sweets tradition, bringing a touch of originality to the presentation of dishes.

For an even more Italian touch, you could pair this donut with a good glass of full-bodied red wine, maybe a Barbera or Chianti, which will beautifully complete the robust flavors of the dish. Enjoy your meal!
