Bread, Potato and Bluefish Pie

The bread, potato and bluefish pie offers a fusion of simple, rustic flavors that come together in a unique dish. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 300 g of stale bread
  • 400 g of potatoes
  • 500 g of bluefish (such as sardines or anchovies)
  • 2 tablespoons of salted capers
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Fresh parsley to taste
  • 1 onion
  • Extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Start by peeling the potatoes and slicing them thinly, then cook them in salted water until they become soft yet still firm. Drain them and let them cool.
  2. In the meantime, clean the bluefish by removing the head, innards, and descaling it. If you are using sardines or anchovies, you will also need to remove the central bones. Cut the fish into not too small pieces.
  3. Soften the stale bread in some water or milk, squeeze it well and crumble it roughly with your hands.
  4. In a pan, fry the chopped onion with a drizzle of oil and a clove of garlic. Once golden, add the desalted capers, the chopped parsley, and the bluefish. Sauté everything for a few minutes.
  5. Take a baking dish and grease it with a bit of oil. Make a first layer of stale bread, then a layer of potatoes, and a layer of fish with its seasoning. Continue alternating the layers until all the ingredients are used up, ending with a final layer of bread.
  6. Bake the bread, potato and bluefish pie at 180 °C for about 30 minutes or until the surface is golden and crispy.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
