Hard-boiled eggs

Hard-boiled eggs are a simple and nutritious classic. Here is how to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • Eggs (as many as you wish)

Preparation

  1. Bring a pot of water large enough to contain the eggs you wish to cook to a boil.
  2. With the help of a spoon, gently lay the eggs into the boiling water. To prevent the eggs from cracking, you can make a small hole in the wider part of the egg with a toothpick before putting them in the water.
  3. Let the eggs cook for 9-12 minutes, depending on how much you prefer the yolk to be done. If you like a creamy yolk, 9 minutes are usually enough. For a fully set yolk, wait 12 minutes.
  4. Once done, remove the eggs from the boiling water with the spoon and immediately plunge them into a bowl of cold water or run cold water over them to stop the cooking.
  5. Let them cool for a few minutes in cold water, after which they will be easy to peel.

Hard-boiled eggs can be eaten as they are, with a pinch of salt, or used in numerous dishes, such as salads, sandwiches, or as the base for preparing deviled eggs.

Trivia

Eggs are one of the most versatile and nutritious foods available, rich in high-quality protein and essential vitamins. In Italy, hard-boiled eggs are often found in capricious salads or as an ingredient in some pasta variants, such as pasta alla carbonara (even though in the original version there are no hard-boiled eggs).
