Beef Strips

Beef strips are a simple and delicious Italian dish, perfect for a quick but tasty dinner. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 300 g of beef sirloin
  • Flour, as needed
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Salt and pepper, as needed
  • White wine, one glass
  • Fresh arugula (optional)
  • Parmesan cheese flakes (optional)
  • Cherry tomatoes (optional)

Preparation

  1. Cut the beef sirloin into thin strips, typically just under a centimeter wide.
  2. Lightly flour the beef strips, shaking off the excess flour.
  3. In a large pan, heat the extra virgin olive oil and add the whole garlic clove to flavor the oil.
  4. Remove the garlic when it’s golden and add the beef strips to the pan.
  5. Sauté the strips at high temperature for a few minutes, until they are golden brown on the outside but still pink on the inside.
  6. Deglaze with white wine and let the alcohol evaporate at high flame.
  7. Adjust with salt and pepper and remove from the heat.
  8. If desired, you can finish the dish with fresh arugula, Parmesan cheese flakes, and halved cherry tomatoes added after cooking.

This dish is versatile and allows for different variations. Some add balsamic vinegar at the end of cooking to give a sweet and sour note, others use mushrooms to create a sort of sauce. You can also serve the strips with a side of vegetables or on a base of mashed potatoes.

Curiosity

The term “straccetti” comes from the irregular shape and small size of the slices of meat, which resemble little “rags” of fabric. It is a quick and tasty way to enjoy beef.
