BBQ Salmon Fillet

The BBQ salmon fillet is a flavorful and tasty dish, perfect for those who love smoked and intense flavors. Here is a recipe with an Italian twist that you might appreciate.

Ingredients

  • Salmon fillets (150-200 g per serving)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Fine salt and black pepper
  • Aromatic herbs (rosemary, thyme), finely chopped
  • 1 lemon (juice and grated zest)
  • 1 clove of garlic

Preparation

  1. Prepare the salmon by cleaning it and patting it dry with kitchen paper. If the skin is still on, you can leave it; it will help keep the fish juicy during cooking.
  2. Rub the salmon fillets with a little bit of oil, then season them with salt, pepper, chopped aromatic herbs, and grated lemon zest.
  3. In a bowl, mix the lemon juice with a crushed garlic clove and a bit of extra virgin olive oil, then brush this marinade onto the salmon.
  4. Heat the BBQ to a medium-high temperature. If you have a thermometer, try to reach 200-220 °C.
  5. Lightly oil the BBQ grill to prevent the salmon from sticking.
  6. Place the salmon fillets on the grill, skin-side down if present.
  7. Close the BBQ lid and cook for about 5-7 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. Do not turn the salmon; the skin will become crispy and the fish will cook evenly thanks to the lid.
  8. Check for doneness; the salmon is ready when it flakes easily with a fork but is still moist inside.
  9. Serve immediately, possibly accompanied by lemon slices and a fresh salad or grilled vegetables.

Notes:

If you do not have a BBQ, you can use a stovetop grill or a well-heated non-stick pan to achieve a similar result, although naturally, the characteristic smoky flavor will be less pronounced.

Remember that the secret to a good grilled salmon fillet is the crispy skin: it must be well cooked and dry before serving.

Trivia

Salmon is a fish rich in Omega-3, very healthy for the body. Quick and intense cooking methods like BBQ allow its nutritional properties to remain intact. The touch of lemon not only adds freshness but is perfect to counterbalance the salmon’s natural fat, making the dish more balanced to the palate.
