Bavette with Octopus and Shrimp

Bavette with Octopus and Shrimp is a richly flavored dish that masterfully combines the taste of the sea with pasta. Here is the recipe to prepare this delicious dish:

Ingredients

  • 320 g of bavette (or other long pasta such as linguine or spaghetti)
  • 1 medium octopus (about 600-800 g), already cleaned
  • 200 g of shrimp, shelled and cleaned
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 300 g of cherry tomatoes
  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 chili pepper (optional)
  • White wine, a glass for cooking the octopus (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by cooking the octopus. Put it in a large pot and cover it with cold water, then bring to the boil and let it cook for about 40 minutes or until it is tender. If you like, you can add a glass of white wine during cooking to flavor it.

  2. Once cooked, drain the octopus, allow it to cool slightly and cut it into pieces.

  3. In a large frying pan, heat some extra virgin olive oil with the garlic cloves and the chili pepper. Once the garlic is golden brown, remove it and add the octopus pieces. Sauté for a few minutes.

  4. Add the shrimp and allow them to brown for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn pink and are cooked.

  5. Add the halved cherry tomatoes and let them cook for a few minutes until a sauce is created.

  6. Meanwhile, cook the bavette in plenty of salted water following the cooking times indicated on the package to make sure they are al dente.

  7. Drain the pasta and transfer it to the pan with the octopus and shrimp sauce, adding a bit of the pasta cooking water if necessary to extend the sauce.

  8. Stir well to flavor the pasta with the condiment, add the chopped fresh parsley and a drizzle of raw oil if necessary.

  9. Plate and serve immediately.

Curiosity

The bavette perfectly matches with seafood sauces for their ability to retain the dressing. Octopus requires careful cooking to be tender and tasty, while shrimp add a sweet flavor that marvelously contrasts with the right amount of sourness from the cherry tomatoes. This dish encapsulates the flavors and colors of the Mediterranean, evoking seascapes and traditional Italian culinary tradition.
