Oven-Baked Trout

The oven-baked trout is a simple and tasty dish that can be easily prepared. Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients

  • 1 whole and cleaned trout (about 200-250g per person)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon
  • Aromatic herbs to taste (for example, thyme, rosemary, parsley)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Vegetables of choice for serving (for example, potatoes, carrots, onions)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Clean the trout well, removing the innards if it hasn’t already been cleaned, and pat it dry with kitchen paper.
  3. Rub the inside and outside of the trout with some extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  4. Thinly slice the garlic and cut the lemon into slices or wedges. Fill the abdominal cavity of the trout with the garlic, the chosen aromatic herbs, and some lemon slices.
  5. If you wish to add vegetables, cut them into uniform pieces and arrange them in an oven dish, season them with oil, salt, pepper, and possibly other aromatic herbs.
  6. Place the trout on top of the bed of vegetables or directly on a baking tray lined with parchment paper if you prefer to cook it without vegetables.
  7. Bake the trout for about 20-30 minutes or until the flesh is delicately white and flakes easily with a fork.
  8. Once cooked, remove the trout from the oven and serve it drizzling with the juice released during cooking or with a raw drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and garnish with fresh lemon slices.

Fun Fact

Trout is a freshwater fish highly prized for its delicate flavor and tender, lean meat. It is often baked or grilled and lends itself to multiple variations, both in the use of aromatic herbs and the addition of dressings. Remember that cooking times can vary depending on the size and thickness of the fish.
