Oven-Baked Melty Frittata

Here is the recipe for a delicious oven-baked melty frittata, which is a tasty variant of the traditional Italian frittata.

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 100 g of melty cheese (for example, Asiago, Fontina or Mozzarella)
  • 50 g of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil or butter for greasing the pan

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Grease a baking dish with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil or butter, making sure to cover the edges as well.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with a whisk or a fork until smooth.
  4. Add the milk, grated cheese, salt, pepper, and, if desired, a pinch of nutmeg. Mix well to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  5. Cut the melty cheese into cubes or strips and add it to the mixture.
  6. Pour the egg mixture into the greased dish and level with a spatula.
  7. Bake the frittata for about 20-25 minutes, or until it is golden brown on the surface and well-cooked in the center.
  8. Once ready, take the frittata out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before cutting and serving.

This frittata is especially tasty thanks to the melty cheese, which once in the oven, melts creating a very inviting effect. You can serve it as a main dish or as a second course, perhaps accompanied by a fresh seasonal salad.

Curiosity

In some regions of Italy, the frittata is enriched with additional ingredients such as vegetables (spinach, zucchini), mushrooms, or even small pieces of deli meats (prosciutto, pancetta). It is a very versatile dish that lends itself to numerous variations according to personal taste or the ingredients available.
