Oven-Baked Chicken Strips

Oven-baked chicken strips are a simple and healthy dish, perfect for a light but tasty dinner. Here I will provide an Italian version of this dish.

Ingredients

  • 500 g of chicken breast, cut into strips
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sprig of fresh rosemary
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • A pinch of chili pepper (optional)
  • Aromatic herbs to taste (e.g. thyme, oregano)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
  2. In a bowl, season the chicken strips with salt, pepper, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, and lemon juice. Mix well to ensure the chicken is evenly flavored.
  3. Crush the garlic cloves with the flat side of a knife and add them to the bowl with the chicken, along with the rosemary sprig and any aromatic herbs you prefer.
  4. Let it marinate for about ten minutes, so the chicken will be well-flavored.
  5. Line a baking tray with parchment paper, and arrange the chicken strips well spaced apart.
  6. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked inside.
  7. Halfway through cooking, you can turn the strips over for even browning.
  8. At the end of cooking, if you wish, sprinkle with a pinch of chili pepper to add a bit of spice.

Serve the chicken strips hot, perhaps with a fresh green salad or steamed vegetables.

Curiosity

The chicken strips get their name from their shape, resembling rags, thin and irregular. It’s a way of cutting chicken that helps to cook the pieces quickly and makes them perfect for absorbing seasonings.
