Baked Chicken Rolls

Here is the recipe for preparing baked chicken rolls, a tasty and juicy variant that will surely please everyone. I’ll be adding an Italian touch by including mozzarella and cooked ham to enrich them.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 8 slices of cooked ham
  • 150 g of mozzarella
  • Fresh sage (to taste)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • White wine (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Flatten the chicken breasts slightly with a meat mallet, trying not to break them.
  3. Salt and pepper the chicken breasts on both sides to season.
  4. Cut the mozzarella into sticks.
  5. On the surface of each chicken breast, lay one or two slices of cooked ham, some mozzarella sticks, and if you like, a few leaves of fresh sage.
  6. Gently roll each stuffed chicken breast onto itself, forming a roll. Secure the rolls with toothpicks to maintain their shape.
  7. Grease a baking dish with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and place the rolls inside.
  8. Drizzle the rolls with another dash of oil and, if you want, with some white wine to add flavor and tenderness.
  9. Place the rolls in the oven and let them cook for about 20-25 minutes or until they are well browned and cooked properly. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the rolls.
  10. Once cooked, remove the toothpicks and serve the rolls while they’re hot.

An interesting fact: Rolls are a versatile dish that can be personalized in a thousand ways. In the typical Sicilian version, for example, chicken rolls are stuffed with breadcrumbs, raisins, and pine nuts, wrapped in bay leaves, and cooked in the oven or on the grill.
