Apple Tart Without Butter
17/11/2023The apple tart without butter is an excellent alternative for those who follow a dairy-free diet or simply prefer to avoid butter. Here’s a version of the recipe that uses oil as a substitute:
Ingredients
- 300g of type 00 flour
- 100g of sugar
- 1 large egg
- 80ml of seed oil or extra virgin olive oil (depending on preferred taste)
- 1 packet of baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- Grated zest of 1 lemon
- 4-5 medium-large apples
- Juice of half a lemon
- Ground cinnamon (to taste)
- Brown sugar (to taste, for sprinkling)
Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix the flour with the sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Add the egg and start to combine the ingredients.
- Pour in the oil and knead until you get a homogeneous mixture. If the dough is too dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time until you get the desired consistency.
- Work the dough briefly on a floured surface and then wrap it in cling film. Let it rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, peel the apples, remove the core, and slice them thinly. Place the apples in a bowl and drizzle with lemon juice to prevent them from browning, add cinnamon if you want a spiced flavor.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Roll out three-quarters of the dough and line a previously oiled and floured tart pan, creating a high edge.
- Arrange the apple slices neatly on the pastry base.
- With the remaining pastry, form strips or decorations to place on the apples.
- Sprinkle the apples with a little brown sugar to give them a golden color in cooking and a caramelized taste.
- Bake in the oven for about 40-45 minutes, until the tart is golden and the apples are soft.
- Allow to cool before serving.
If you want to add an Italian touch to this recipe, you might think of enriching the filling with chopped nuts or almonds or flavoring the dough with a little Amaretto di Saronno.
The apple tart without butter is perfect to serve as a dessert at the end of a meal or for a healthy snack.
