Apple pancakes with a heart of apple

Apple heart pancakes are a delicious variant of the classic pancakes, perfect for a rich breakfast or a Sunday brunch. Here is the recipe to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples, preferably of a sweet and crunchy variety
  • 150 g of flour
  • 200 ml of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar (plus a bit to sprinkle on the apples)
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Butter or oil for greasing the pan

Preparation

  1. Start by peeling the apples and removing the core. Then, slice them into half-centimeter thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, pinch of salt, and cinnamon (if you are using it).
  3. In another bowl, lightly beat the eggs and add the milk.
  4. Mix the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until you get a smooth and homogeneous batter.
  5. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. When hot, lightly grease it with butter or oil.
  6. Quickly dip the apple slices into the mixture, making sure to cover them evenly.
  7. Place each soaked apple slice on the hot pan and cook until a golden crust forms on the bottom, then flip and cook on the other side.
  8. Serve the pancakes warm, perhaps with a dusting of powdered sugar, honey, or maple syrup.

Trivia

The pancake, in its basic form, is a very versatile dish that lends itself to numerous variations, from the addition of fresh fruit to chocolate chips or nuts. In this apple heart version, the sweet taste of the fruit harmoniously blends with the soft texture of the pancake, offering a truly pleasant taste experience, slightly spiced thanks to the cinnamon.
