17/11/2023Sweet apple and cinnamon spring rolls are a tasty and original variation of the classic Asian appetizer. Adapting this recipe to incorporate Italian elements can lead to a surprisingly delicious outcome. The fusion between Italian and Asian cuisine is definitely something creative and innovative. Let’s proceed with the recipe.
Ingredients
- 8 spring roll wrappers
- 3 apples of your choice
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- A pinch of nutmeg
- Raisins to taste (optional)
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- Powdered sugar for decorating
- Oil for frying
Preparation
- Begin by peeling the apples, removing the core, and cutting them into small cubes. Place them in a bowl and drizzle with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- In a pan, melt the butter and add the apple cubes, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg. If you like, you can also add some raisins. Cook over medium-low heat for about 5-10 minutes, until the apples have softened slightly and have absorbed the flavors of the spices.
- Remove the apples from the heat and let them cool down a bit.
- Take the spring roll wrappers and lay them out on a work surface. In the center of each wrapper, place a portion of the apple mixture. Make sure to leave space at the edges to properly seal the roll.
- Fold the sides toward the center and then roll up the wrapper so that the filling is well sealed inside. You can use a bit of water to seal the edges if necessary.
- Heat oil in a pan or fryer and, once the ideal temperature is reached, fry the spring rolls until they are golden and crispy.
- Drain well on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Dust the sweet spring rolls with powdered sugar before serving.
Serving these sweet spring rolls is a delightful way to end a meal or as an afternoon snack. The combination of apples and cinnamon is typical of Italian pastry, especially in desserts like apple pie or strudel. This Asian twist brings a touch of novelty and a pleasant surprise for the palate.
