Apple and chocolate turnovers

Apple and chocolate turnovers are a delicious twist on classic baked treats. Here’s how to make them:

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of rectangular puff pastry
  • 2 apples (Golden or Fuji are good choices)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 100 g of dark chocolate (or chocolate chips)
  • Brown sugar as needed
  • 1 egg (for brushing)
  • Icing sugar (for garnishing)

Preparation

  1. Apple preparation: Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes. Place them in a bowl and season with lemon juice and a couple of tablespoons of brown sugar, then let them rest for a few minutes.

  2. Filling: Break the dark chocolate into small pieces if you are not using chocolate chips.

  3. Assembling the turnovers: Take the puff pastry and cut it into squares of about 8-10 cm on each side. In the center of each puff pastry square, place some of the apple mixture and a few pieces of chocolate.

  4. Shaping the turnover: Close the puff pastry by bringing together two opposite corners to form a triangle, and seal the edges by pressing them with a fork, or, if you prefer an alternative shape, you can fold all four corners towards the center, sealing well to prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.

  5. Baking: Place the turnovers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush them with the beaten egg and, if desired, sprinkle with a little more brown sugar.

  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (356 °F) for about 20 minutes, or until the turnovers are nicely golden brown.

  7. Finishing: Remove the turnovers from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. Before serving, dust with icing sugar for a touch of sweetness and presentation.

Curiosity

The combination of chocolate and apples is a winning match in many desserts, from cakes to small bundles. Apples bring a slight acidity and freshness, while the chocolate provides a deep note of sweet comfort. These turnovers are perfect for an autumn snack or as a dessert after dinner.

Bon appétit!
