American Cookies with Chocolate Chips and Peanuts
17/11/2023Here’s the recipe to prepare American cookies with chocolate chips and peanuts, with an Italian touch.
Ingredients
- 225 g of unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 150 g of brown sugar
- 100 g of granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 300 g of pastry flour (00)
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 200 g of dark or milk chocolate chips
- 100 g of salted peanuts, coarsely chopped
Preparation
-
Preheat the oven to 180 °C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a bowl, mix the flour with the baking soda and salt. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Add the dry ingredients previously prepared to the butter and sugar mixture, and mix until just incorporated. Do not overbeat.
-
Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped peanuts with a spatula or wooden spoon.
-
Use an ice cream scoop or two spoons to portion the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie as they will spread during baking.
-
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are golden but the centers remain soft.
-
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to complete the cooling.
Curiosity
In the United States, chocolate chip cookies are a timeless classic. The origin of these cookies dates back to 1938 when Ruth Wakefield of the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts decided to add pieces of chocolate to a cookie dough, thereby accidentally creating the first chocolate chip cookies. For an all-Italian variant, you could replace the peanuts with chopped hazelnuts or almonds, or add a pinch of cinnamon to give a spicy aroma.
