Almond butter

Almond butter is a delicious and simple to make spread. Perfect if you’re looking for an alternative to traditional butter or commercial nut creams.

Ingredients

  • Raw almonds: 200 grams (or more depending on how much butter you want to produce)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 160 °C (320 °F).
  2. Spread the almonds on a baking sheet in a single layer and toast them in the oven for about 10-12 minutes. This step is optional but helps to release the almonds’ natural oils and intensify their flavor.
  3. Allow the almonds to cool slightly after removing them from the oven.
  4. Transfer the almonds to the bowl of a powerful blender or food processor.
  5. Blend the almonds at high speed. Initially, they will turn into almond flour. You will need to stop occasionally and scrape the sides of the bowl to ensure that the mixture is processed evenly.
  6. Continue blending. After a few minutes, the almonds will begin to release their oils and the mixture will become lumpy.
  7. Keep blending. Patience is necessary, as it can take from 10 to 20 minutes before the almonds turn into a creamy paste. If your blender or food processor gets too hot, give it a break before continuing.
  8. Once the mixture has reached a creamy and smooth consistency, your almond butter is ready.

Storage: You can transfer the almond butter into an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. By doing so, it will keep for several weeks.

Fun Fact

Almond butter, besides being tasty, is also very healthy. Almonds are rich in monounsaturated fats, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. It’s a great way to add plant-based protein and essential nutrients to your daily diet. For instance, it’s perfect to spread on a slice of whole grain bread or as an ingredient in smoothies for a healthy and energetic breakfast or snack.
