Almond Brittle

Almond brittle is a very tasty traditional sweet and relatively simple to prepare. Here’s how to do it.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of whole almonds (you can also use peeled or sliced almonds based on preference)
  • 150 g of granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1/2 glass of water
  • 1 tablespoon of butter (to grease the work surface)

Preparation

  1. Toast the almonds in a pan without adding fats until they are golden. Be careful to stir them frequently to prevent burning.
  2. In another pan, pour the sugar, honey, and water. Cook over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture starts to caramelize.
  3. Once the caramel has reached a splendid golden color, add the toasted almonds and mix quickly to completely cover them with the caramel.
  4. Pour the mixture onto a work surface previously greased with a bit of butter or lined with a sheet of parchment paper.
  5. Roll out the brittle with a rolling pin, always greasing with a bit of butter to prevent sticking, until you get the desired thickness (usually about half a centimeter).
  6. Let it cool and then break the brittle into your preferred sizes.

Curiosity

Almond brittle has a long history in Italy and is often associated with holidays and festive moments, especially in southern Italy. They can be enjoyed as a snack, given as a sweet thought, or used as part of more elaborate decorations for desserts.

Happy preparation and enjoy your meal!
