Açaí bowl

The Açaí bowl is a typically Brazilian dish that has also become very popular outside of Brazil for its nutritional benefits and as an excellent option for a healthy and energizing breakfast or snack. Before proceeding, I would like to inform you that I will adapt this recipe with an Italian touch, using fresh and quality ingredients that you can find in Italy, while remaining faithful to the original concept of the dish.

Ingredients

  • 100 g of açaí pulp (usually available in frozen or freeze-dried form)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 100 ml of apple juice or another plant-based drink (such as almond or soy milk)
  • Fresh fruit of choice (e.g., strawberries, kiwi, blueberries)
  • Cereals such as granola or oat flakes for garnish
  • Honey or maple syrup, if you wish to add sweetness
  • Chia or flax seeds for an extra nutritional boost
  • Grated or flaked coconut to garnish

Preparation

  1. Slightly thaw the açaí pulp if it is frozen, so you can work with it better.
  2. Cut the banana into pieces and place it in the blender along with the açaí pulp and apple juice (or chosen plant-based drink).
  3. Blend until you have a smooth and creamy mixture. If you want a more liquid consistency, you can add more juice or plant-based drink as desired.
  4. Pour the obtained mixture into a bowl.
  5. On top of the açaí base, add the cut-up fresh fruit, granola or oat flakes, chia or flax seeds, and if you wish, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
  6. Garnish with grated or flaked coconut for an exotic and crunchy touch.

The açaí bowl is versatile, and you can personalize the ingredients according to your preferences. Moreover, in Italy, you might want to try replacing the granola with typical cereals like pavesini for a different crunchy note.

Curiosity

Açaí is known to be rich in antioxidants, fibers, and healthy fats. In Brazil, it is often used as a restorative after sports activities or as a start to the day for a charge of healthy and natural energy.
